REPORT FOR PHILIP MORRIS SAYS GOV'T SAVES $
FROM SMOKERS' DEATHS
The study, carried out by Arthur D. Little
International, concluded that the financial benefits to the Czech Government
from cigarette duties, income tax for tobacco businesses and customs duty
already outweighed the costs of healthcare, lost working days and fires caused
by cigarettes. On top of that were the “indirect positive effects of early
deaths — savings on healthcare, pensions and welfare and on providing housing
for the elderly.”
