OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

There are 401 news articles on breast cancer on cancerpage. To see the list of articles, just click on the Breast Cancer Information area and then click on Latest News on the left-side navigation bar.

FREE OR LOW-COST MAMMOGRAMS

Breast cancer death rates could drop by 30% with early detection, according to some experts, which is why the American Cancer Society is coordinating referrals to hundreds of facilities offering free or low-cost mammograms during October. To find out about facilities in your area, call the American Cancer Society at 800-ACS-2345. Many women still don't get regular mammograms, particularly those over 65 and those at lower incomes. BREAST CANCER CHAT ROOM MEETS WEDNESDAYS

Since this is Breast Cancer awareness month, it's time to remind everyone that cancerpage has a loyal and determined leader for our Wednesday evening chat room on cancerpage. Marilynne Gisin, who has been hosting since the Spring of 2000, is a breast cancer survivor trained by American Cancer Society's Reach To Recovery program. Marilynne, we salute you for your continued support for cancer patients and their families.

Participation in our chat rooms does require a simple and confidential registration process where you choose any User Name in order to give you an identifier while in the chat room. You will also choose any password to prevent someone else from using your User Name. The Chat Room opens at 9:00pm on the east coast (6:00pm on the west coast, USA). From the cancerpage homepage, just click on Support Group Chats.

REMINDER: THE RIBBON PROJECT AND BREAST CANCER

The Ribbon Project was begun by cancerpage last year for the benefit of everyone touched by breast cancer. It is our hope that, by bringing people together in this celebration of life, that hope and comfort are shared by all. Since it began, over 5,000 people have "signed" the online ribbon and adding comments, often to honor someone else. One woman left this message for her friend: "You are awesome and such an inspiration to me. I see you as a gift in my life as we have conquered our cancers together."
