GEORGE HARRISON

George Harrison died of lung cancer after a career writing songs as a Beatle and on his own. His family said he died "conscious of God and fearless of death." Coincidentally, 30 years ago this week, he released "All Things Must Pass" with the song "My Sweet Lord" and the line "And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make."

While we at cancerpage like to focus on living with cancer, especially in this Words To Live By newsletter, we recognize cancer does take many of our loved ones. We are also of a "certain age" and invite our friends to add their comments, thoughts, and feelings on our Message Board.

NONSOMKERS GET LUNG CANCER

George Harrison was one of 157,000 US residents who will die of the disease this year and more than 50% of those newly diagnosed with lung cancer are former smokers or those who have never smoked. The Alliance for Lung Cancer Advocacy, Support, and Education (ALCASE) is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to lung cancer. ALCASE and other advocates note that lung cancer has not received the same kind of social and policy attention that it deserves more given that lung cancer kills more people than breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers combined.
